Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is banned. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights many luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
