Cambodia Casinos
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
